Thank you for contributing to the CONNECT 2025 Summit!
Our Summit program is enriched by the collective expertise of our diverse member community, comprising of 25 member institutions including colleges, institutes, and research universities.
Your contributions play an important role in shaping this collaborative event!

Following are the speaker resources and action items to prepare for the Summit:
  • Register as a Speaker by March 21, 2025. Discounted Speaker Rates!
    • As a speaker, you are eligible for a discounted registration fee of $175. The speaker pass gives you access to the entire summit, all sessions, keynotes, breakfast, lunch and the Welcome Reception.

    • If you pre-registered as an attendee, BCNET will refund you the difference in your pass fees. Please contact registration@bc.net for a refund.

    • If your speaking session is approved, register here and select “Speaker Pass”.

    • If you would like to attend the Night Out event, tickets are available as an add-on ($75).

  • Send us Your Speaker Profile(s) - March 3 Deadline
    BCNET profiles all speaker photos and bios on our Summit website and the Summit Mobile App: 
    • To add/remove co-speakers or edit co-speaker profiles, you can email proposals@bc.net until March 3, 2025

    • Send a medium resolution web-ready photo of all speakers (JPG or PNG headshot of at least 300px x 300px)

  • Create and Submit Your PowerPoint Slides: March 21 Deadline
    • The Summit Team provides a CONNECT branded PPT file for presenters

    • Download the BCNET CONNECT Tech Summit PowerPoint template

    • Use the template for the title slide and the closing slide (at minimum).

    • Open the file and save it as a PowerPoint Presentation (.ppt/.pptx) in the following format: First 5 Key Words of Session Title separated by dashes (e.g., the-evolution-of-security-infrastructure.pptx)

    • Create your presentation slides using the preset layouts

    • The recommended font size for PowerPoint presentations is typically between 24 and 32 points for body text ensuring better readability for the audience

    • Ensure that all third-party material is has copyright permission, release, or license, and does not infringe the copyright or violate any rights of any third party

    • Edit the footer (go to 'Insert', then select 'Header & Footer')

    • Make sure that the following boxes are checked:  'Footer', and 'Don't show on title slide'

    • Type in your presentation title in the 'Footer' text box

    • Click 'Apply to All"

    • Save the file when you have finished editing all the slides

    Promote your Session via LinkedIn

    Generate interest in your session by using the speaker promo on LinkedIn. Open the link, right click and save as image.

  • Onsite Information
     

    Kindly approach any event staff (room monitors or registration staff) should you require assistance onsite.

    Check-In at the Summit Registration Desk

    When you arrive at the Sheraton Vancouver Wall Centre, check in at the dedicated Speaker Registration Desk to claim your attendee/speaker badge.

    Speakers' Lounge

    During the Summit, you are invited to use the dedicated Speakers Lounge. The Lounge is located in Chartroom on the 3rd floor of the North Tower by the elevators.

    Allotted Speaking Times - Member Sessions

    Each member breakout session is allocated 45 minutes of speaking time, accommodating any Q&A within the allocated time.

    Allotted Speaking Times - Sponsor Sessions

    Each sponsor breakout session is allocated 30 minutes of speaking time, accommodating any Q&A within the allocated time.

  • Audiovisual Guidelines

    The Summit provides onsite technical support for any AV issues. You can inform your room monitor if you’re experiencing any technical issues.

    Each presentation room is equipped with the following:

    • Hardware: PC

    • Operating System: Windows 10 Pro

    • Software: Microsoft Office 2021

    • Browser: Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Firefox

    • Media Player: VLC and Microsoft Media Player

    • One large projection screen (16:9 aspect ratio)

    • One high brightness data projector

    • Wired internet connection (dedicated 15 Mbps)

    • Wireless internet access

    • Podium microphone

    • Floating audience microphones in the main plenary room

    • HDMI cable

    • Remote clicker

    • Wireless mouse

    Note: We highly encourage speakers to use the room's default AV equipment. If you must bring and use your own computer, please provide your own video adapter to connect to the AV equipment. We request that you personally reset the equipment to its original setup to avoid any technical delays for the next session. 

  • Speaker Presentation Guidelines

    General Guidelines

    • Each breakout room is assigned a room monitor

    • Please observe the reminders given by your assigned room monitor. 

    • Time limits are strict and must be followed.

    • Only presentations in PDF or PowerPoint are permitted

    • Presentations should be interactive and engaging

    Before your Speaking Session

    • Arrive at least 10-15 minutes before your session to familiarize yourself with the venue and your room assignment

    • Please approach the assigned room monitor to inform that you are the speaker for the session

    • Bring a back-up of your presentation on a flash drive

    • If you must utilize your own equipment, please test it at least one day before your presentation

    • Please check with the room monitor for any announcements or last minute instructions
