In 2021, the Ministry of Post-Secondary Education and Future Skills engaged the post-secondary system to better understand and support digital learning models in post-secondary education in British Columbia in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Digital Learning Advisory Committee (DLAC) was initiated through collaboration between the Ministry and the post-secondary system. The DLAC was tasked with producing recommendations for the postsecondary system and the Provincial Government regarding policies, practices, and initiatives that will enable digital learning models to support increased equity, access, and success in post-secondary education. In the winter of 2023, the DLAC released B.C.'s Post-Secondary Digital Learning Strategy. A key component of the Digital Learning Strategy was the development of the B.C. Post-Secondary Digital Literacy Framework with the intent of providing post-secondary institutions with guidelines for the development of digital literacy policies and tools. BCcampus, in partnership with the Ministry of Post-Secondary Education and Future Skills, has developed 2 tools to support institutions in enhancing digital literacy knowledge, skills and abilities across the post-secondary system. The first is a Digital Literacy Competency self-assessment tool which gives educators a fun and engaging way to help determine their own level of digital literacy. The second is the Digital Literacy Open Educational Resource (OER) repository which contains teaching, learning, and professional development materials that align with the B.C. Post-Secondary Digital Literacy Framework. In this session, we will demonstrate both tools and show how they align with the 8 thematic competencies of the Digital Literacy Framework, and how they can be used by institutions to help meet the outcomes in the post-secondary Digital Literacy Framework.
