The ongoing evolution of the research process is making information technology integral to discovery. From large scale global collaborations in traditional fields such as astronomy and genomics, to the growth of new, data-heavy disciplines such as machine learning and the humanities, digital research is the new normal. Additionally, developments outside of academia, such as opportunities to leverage commercial cloud resources and the impact of cybersecurity threats, are evolving the landscape for researchers and higher education IT professionals.  Fortunately, we do not have to tackle these challenges and opportunities alone. Jim will highlight how National Research and Education Networks (NRENs) around the world are navigating these changes and expanding the digital toolkit for Canadian researchers and their international colleagues. He will also share perspectives on where Canada leads globally and the opportunities we have to learn from the experience of our peers.
