In an era of exponential Internet demand, BCNET has successfully cut Internet costs for core members by 17% over last year, while increasing overall capacity.BCNET offers members access to an exclusive buying club for commercial Internet services. As a buying club, BCNET aggregates commercial Internet traffic from all higher education members to secure better, faster and cheaper Internet. BCNET increases efficiencies by pooling service requirements across higher education institutions. Internet requirements are identified by the BCNET Network Planning Advisory Committee, a multi-institutional group that collaborates to identify common Internet needs among institutions. The Committee distributes Request for Proposals to commercial Internet service providers, assesses proposals for services, and awards and negotiates contracts on behalf of the member consortium.
